Who inspires you?
This past summer my 13-year-old son Damani taught me an important lesson. He has played competitive basketball for the past two years and he decided that he wanted to be chosen for his basketball team's AAA team. This meant that he would play against the best players in his age group across Ontario. So, he played basketball almost everyday in the summer with a few friends who are older than him. This allowed him to get stronger and level up his skills. At try outs in September, guess what happened? Yes, he was selected for the AAA team! I am incredibly proud of him. He enjoys the challenge of playing with his new teammates and is improving his skills and deepening his understanding of and love for the game. his assistant coach told him he may be one of the team's best shooters!
Not only did Damani set a big scary goal for himself, but he also put in the work. Everyday. And with me grumbling about driving him to the basketball court (because I wasn’t ready for him to be on public transit due to COVID).
what Lesson did i learn? that big goals allow us to push ourselves out of our comfort zones and into new adventures. But we must put in the work…each day, week, and month. Just like Damani.
Who in your life inspires you to step out of your comfort zone?
